FONTANA---RIS --March 25, 2012 --Tony Stewart wins a rain shortened 16th Annual Auto Club 400 after both starting from ninth position and 129 laps. While Tony was unhappy that he won a rain shortened race, he has lost some that way in the past and was most proud that his team earned it by 'leading the thing!' Tony threw heaps of praise for team owner, Gene Hass for both being the momentum into this season still from 'the chase' and always being open to fund pretty much whatever the team needed to be a winning force 'and' Steve Addington for his superb crew chief instincts and calls. Gene Hass commented, "If Tony is not winning, we the team are doing something wrong." Steve Addington was asked how he knew how to handle the rain regarding the positioning of Tony at the right time - "Yeah, we joke around with the other crew chiefs what we are 'going' to do but it is totally a gut call in the end." A notable 'Tony' comment was noted when he was asked about a pass on approximately lap 88. Tony said, "Can't pass if behing him." Tony was conveying how he overtook 'both' Juan Pablo Montoya and Kyle Busch in one fell swoop. Overall, it was stated numerous times how the car handled incredibly well all over the track. Finally, Steve and Tony made an agreement before the start of the race. "I will race like it is a full 200 lap race and not to worry about rain until Steve mentions it." It was made known that Tony's mentor, A.J. Foyt won his second race not very far away in Ontario many years ago. This was Tony's second win this season.
