Larson Heads Phoenix Practice

(PHOENIX, AZ - MAR 10, 2023 - RIS) Kyle Larson headed the extended practice Friday at Phoenix with a best lap from the No. 5 Chevy of 27.427 sec at 131.258 mph, a narrow 0.032 second quicker than Ryan Blaney’s Ford.
The longer session allowed teams to test the new-for 2023 aero changes to the new NASCAR Cup Series car, with its abbreviated two-inch rear spoiler and reduced under car aero effects.
Josh Berry, substituting for Chase Elliott after Elliott suffered a broken left leg while snowboarding, was 23rd on the time sheet.
“Well, to be fair, really before I got home from Vegas, I had a pretty good idea that I was racing [until Elliott can return.] So that eased my mind a little bit and let us focus on this week,” Berry commented. “We were able to start preparing really as soon as we got home. Monday afternoon, I was at HMS; and in the afternoon, I was at Chevrolet (Technical Center) running laps (on the simulator). It’s been a busy week.
“I think that definitely helps knowing that I at least have a couple of them. We don’t know how many that’s going to be. Like I said before, I’ll be available as long as this group needs me. It’s giving me a great opportunity to learn and grow. I’m just excited to keep going.”
