Berry Claims Alsco Uniforms 300 for Second Win of 2022

(CONCORD, NC – MAY 28, 2022 – RIS) Josh Berry took his second NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the 2022 season, leading 89 of the 200 laps on five different occasions, finally passing Justin Allgaier for the win on lap 178 when Allgaier slid into the wall after the two had swapped the lead back and forth several times. Ty Gibbs never led but finished second, 18 seconds in arrears, chased closely by pole-sitter Sam Mayer, with Noah Gragson about a second behind Mayer in fourth and Ryan Preece fifth. Daniel Hemric was the last car on the lead lap, finishing sixth, with Justin Allgaier a lap down in seventh.

Eight cautions interrupted the race for a total of 44 laps, with the first yellow flying only sixteen laps into the race, when Brandon Jones spun in the second turn. Just two laps into the following green flag laps, Timmy Hill spun in Turn Three, backing into the wall and ending his day. The biggest incident of the day occurred on lap 111, when five cars got tangled, involving Joe Grag Jr, Anthony Alfredo, Ryan Sieg, Austin Dillon and Stefan Parsons, taking all five cars out of the race.

“We were just a little slower than those guys and I was too tight center,” said Gibbs. “Just need to be able to rotate the center of the corner, that’s where we were lacking the most and that’s where we got beat. But we held onto a second-place finish. We’ll take that – solid day.

“No, never satisfied unless you win and you can make mistakes and win too, but you have to fix those. If not, then you shouldn’t be here.”
