MADISON, IL - RIS - Ross Chastain captured the win in Saturday night’s NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series CarShield 200 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. it was redemption after last weeks disquifacation for a rules infraction.  Chastain was declared the winner in that one until he was stipped of the victory after post-race inspection show the ride heigth was off.

After a call for fuel only by crew chief Phil Gould on the last stop on Lap 133, Chastain was able to hold on to take the checkered flag ahead of Todd Gilliland.

The win came less than a week after his victory last Sunday was taken away when he was disqualified at Iowa Speedway after his truck was found to be too low in the front in post-race inspection. Brett Moffitt was awarded the win.

“These guys went home and we were mad,” Chastain said. “Felt like we had one taken from us. Holy cow. They believed in me. I didn’t want to take tires. Then it was up to me to freaking hold them off, I don’t know how.”

Chastain led 21 laps and scored a $50,000 bonus by winning a race in the Triple Truck Challenge.

“Oh, I’m going to take that money home and they’re not going to take it from us,” Chastain said.

Stewart Friesen, Chandler Smith and Moffitt rounded out the top five.

Grant Enfinger, Sheldon Creed, Ben Rhodes, Matt Crafton and Myatt Snider, subbing for Johnny Sauter who was suspended one race for his incident with Austin Hill last week in Iowa, completed the first 10 finishers.

Enfinger won the race’s first two stages.

Christian Eckes led a race-high 57 laps and was in position to give Chastain a run for the lead and win late. But he faded and hit the wall on the last lap to finish 14th.

“Yeah, got wrecked by the 52 (Friesen) again. It’s unfortunate,” Eckes said.

The Gander Outdoors Truck Series now heads to Chicagoland Speedway on Friday night, June 28.
