Welcome to Carb Day 2019

INDIANAPOLIS -RIS- (May 24, 2019)  On my way into the track today, a fellow in a truck pulled up beside me at a traffic light.

"How do I get to the Indianapolis Speedway?" he asked.

"Just follow me," I replied, but the punchline to the old joke about how to get to Carnegie Hall passed through my mind - "Practice, practice, practice..."

And that's what's happening here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today - the final practice for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, presented by Gainbridge.

Currently, the 33 qualified cars are sorting out their recently rebuilt cars, working on aero set-ups for running in clean air and in traffic, as well as a few green flag pit stop practices.

After morning storms, the track is dry and fast at 78 degrees.

Later today, following this 90 minute practice session, the Indy Lights run their ever-popular Freedom 100. This event produces some of the best racing this venerable 2.5-mile oval sees these days.

The last on-track - well, trackside - event is the annual Pit Stop Contest.

Stay tuned through the day for updates...
