Hometown Brett Moffitt Out Runs Noah Gragson for Iowa Truck Win

NEWTON, IA – RIS – Brett Moffitt was at his home track on Saturday night and he made the best of it.  Despite a last-lap challenge from pole-sitter Noah Gragson, Moffitt survived a pass by Gragson that he could not hold, hitting the wall, and Moffitt went on to victory In the M&M’s 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway.  Gragson held on for second place.

It was his second victory of the season in the No. 16 truck. He started 16th, the lowest spot on the grid for a race winner in 2018.  Harrison Burton was third, followed by David Gilliland.  Johnny Sauter, who was seeking his third consecutive win finished fifth.

John Hunter Nemechek and Stewart Friesen, the first two stage winners, were caught in a multi-car wreck early in the final stage that knocked each of them out of contention.

“This is everything,” said Moffitt, who said earlier Saturday that he still hasn’t lined up sponsors to race at Chicagoland on June 29.

Gragson’s move in which allowed him to finish second after nearly executing a self-proclaimed “video game” move on the final lap.

“It was all about hitting your marks and hoping (Gragson) wouldn’t be able to pass us, and thankfully he wasn’t. Well, he did — but not for long,” Moffitt said.

Since the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series was not racing this week in observance of Father’s Day, no Cup drivers were entered in the race.
