Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott Teams Penalized After Atlanta

Three NASCAR teams across all three national divisions have been penalized heavily following the race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. One of the penalties came out of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, involving the No. 47 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet of A.J. Allmendinger. After the race, lug nut(s) were found to be improperly installed, resulting in an encumbered finish. Crew chief Randall Burnett has been suspended for three races and fined $65,000. Additionally, both the team and driver have lost 35 championship points.

In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the race-winning Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Kyle Busch failed post-race inspection after being found to be too low in both the left and right front. The encumbered finish has resulted in crew chief Scott Graves has been suspended for one points event and fined $10,000 with the team docked ten championship points. 

And in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the No. 23 GMS Racing Chevrolet of Chase Elliott also failed post-race inspection after finishing fifth. Once again, this met the requirements for being an encumbered finish. Crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz has been suspended for one points event and fined $5,000 with the team docked ten championship points. Stankiewicz was fined an additional $2,500 with a lug nut found to be improperly installed.

Since Busch and Elliott race for the MENCS championship and can't accumulate points in the lower divisions, there was no driver points penalty for either driver.
