Jimmie Johnson Wins the 46th Annual FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks

Dover, DE - RIS - Jimmie Johnson became the fifth driver in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series History to have 10 or more wins at a single track. He joins the legends Richard Petty, David Person, Darrell Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt in that feat. Jimmie has done this at Dover, not too surprising that he has also lead 2999 laps there as well.

Jimmie Johnson wins the 46th Annual FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks. In the past Jimmie has dominated with leading the majority of the laps at Dover, but today he pulls out the win after leading a mere 29. The win moves him up two slots in the points chase trailing just Martin Truex, Jr and Kevin Harvick. This is also his forth win and 9th top-10 finish for the 2015 campaign.

Speaking of Kevin Harvick; who finished second, he now has his 13th top-10 finish in just 29 starts at Dover International Speedway, For the season it is his 12th top-10 finish and is currently the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points leader. His lead has increased to 44 points over Martin Truex, Jr and 76 over Jimmie Johnson.

Kyle Larson in the Target Chevrolet $32 finished 3rd, and Kasey Kahne wheeling the Farmers Insurance Chevrolet #5 was 4th. Fifth went to Aric Almirola in the Smithfield Ford #43. Sixth finisher ws Martin Truex, Jr. in the Furniture Row/Visser Precision Chevrolet #78. Seventh place was the #1 McDonald’s/Cessna Chevrolet. Paul Menard brought the Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet #27 home in 8th place. 9th place went to the highest finishing Toyota, #15 Clint Bowyer in the AAA Insurance Toyota, and to round out the top-10 Jeff Gordon driving the #24 3M Chevrolet.

Jimmie Johnson explained that his pitchers put in the work today. Because of the pitstops and the speed and precision there to jump ahead of a number of other cars and we used that to move to the front and make the great finish results are unofficial until NASCAR certifies the results. Kevin Harvick was strong all day and then the team had a track bar break and as he quoted, “We were pretty much in a box and just kind of had to hold on!”

The Chevrolets were strong all day and finished in eight of the top ten finishers. Jimmie Johnson explained that his pitchers put in the work today. Next week NASCAR travels to Pocono, PA and a whole new set of turns, well, three to be exact. Look for another get race and watch for your favorite driver to make his run at the “Tricky Triangle.” See you at the track.
