Carb Day Greeting - Finally, good weather...

INDIANAPOLIS (May 22, 2015) -RIS- Welcome to the 2015 edition of Carburetion Day, the final day of Indy car practice prior to the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500.

And the weather is cooperating. Should be a beautiful day.

Today, we'll see the vintage Indy cars - front-engined and rear - warm up the venerable 2.5-mile oval before all hell breaks loose.

The IndyCars & Stars (tm) will hit the track at 11:00 for an hour of open practice.

Two cars to watch:

  1. The #5 of Ryan Briscoe, subbing for injured James Hinchcliffe. Briscoe will be adjusting Hinch's Race set-up to his own, and
  2. The #18 of Carlos Huertas. Huertas failed his Race physical, and has been excluded for an "inner ear condition". Huertas has been replaced by Tristan Vautier, who qualified - then vacated - James Davison's #19.

At 12:30, the Indy Lights' Freedom 100 rolls off - the first time the new Lights cars have raced on the oval. The old Dallara chassis used to provide spectacular races here, so we hope for more of the same.

At 2:00, the Tag Heuer Pit Stop Challenge (Miller, Rally's... Can never remember who sponsors it) pits the creme de la creme of the IndyCar team pit crews against each other in a steel cage death match. Or something like that.

And from 3:30-on, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway becomes the Greatest Spectacle in Concerts, as O.A.R., .38 Special, and Jane's Addiction entertain the "race fans" from the Turn 4 infield stage.

Stay tuned for news of Huerta's sub.
