Matt Crafton Wins Championship While "Bubba" Wallace wins Homestead Race

Homestead, FL – RIS – Matt Crafton won the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Series Championship while Darrell Wallace, Jr. drove to victory at Miami-Homestead Speedway Friday night.  Darrell Wallace Jr. held off Kyle Larson on the last lap to win Friday night’s Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, his fourth NASCAR Truck series victory of the season.

“This is so exciting and cool,” said Wallace, who is expected to move to the Nationwide series next season. “These guys on this team never gave up all season.”

After the race, Wallace, who drives a  Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports, participated in a duel burnout on the frontstretch with Kyle Busch, who clinched the series owner’s championship for his No. 51 team.

“It’s been a great year. We ran up front, had really fast trucks. I’m so happy for everyone at KBM,” said Busch, who finished fourth in the race.  It’s been a phenomenal year for (Wallace). If it wasn’t for some bad luck early in the season he would have been right there racing for a championship.”

KBM drivers ended up winning 14 of the 22 races this season – Busch had seven, Wallace four and Erik Jones three. Wallace ended up third in the standings.

Matt Crafton, with his ninth-place finish, clinched his second consecutive driver’s championship with ThorSport Racing, which also fields Toyotas. He needed only to finish 21st or better to clinch the title.

Crafton is the first driver in series history to win back-to-back titles.

“To say I made history is definitely very, very cool, but it’s all about the guys that are behind me. Without them, I’m just an average race car driver at best,” he said.

“I wanted to race so much harder tonight. I couldn’t take any chances. I know I could have went further forward, but I said it is what it is.”

ThorSport Racing has fielded at least one truck in 431 races, including 413 consecutive starts since January 1998 – both are series records.

Timothy Peters finished third in the race and Ryan Blaney was fifth. Blaney ended up as runner-up in the points race, finishing 21 points behind Crafton.

Ben Kennedy, who finished ninth in points, was named the series rookie of the year.
