KOKOMO IN, JULY 12, 2014 -RIS- Kokomo Speedway is Dave Darland's 'home' track and it sure looked that way as Darland set a new track record in qualifying of 12.405 seconds and went on to win the 30 lap feature by holding off Justin Grant in a thrilling finish.

“There toward the end it was a little bit hard to see with the dust. That cushion down there and a shadow or two from the wall, it's awful close to the wall and with a little bit of dust from the cars your in traffic with makes it hard to do the job 100 per cent. I got a little slower there toward the end and Justin got me a couple of times. Luckily I was able to get him back.” Said Darland after the race.

It was actually on the final lap that Darland was passed going into the first turn by Justin Grant. Darland got a good exit from turn two and was able to regain the lead in turn three.

Forty six cars were at the track for qualifying despite the afternoon rain which threatened to spoil the event. The track crew did an expert job in working up the track and getting it ready. Heat races followed with Tracy Hinds winning the first heat and Brent Beauchamp, Daron Clayton and Brady Short being the winners of the other heats. Landon Simon won the qualifying race. Chad Boespflug won the semi feature.

The winner of Indiana Sprint Week race, Jon Stanbrough finished in eleventh place which dropped him back to fourth in the the Sprint Week standings behind Chris Windom (3rd & 3rd), Dave Darland (8th & 1st) and Justin Grant (2nd & 2nd).

So the series moves south to the high banks of Lawrenceburg by the Ohio River for race three Sunday night.
