Mustang's 50th Birthday Celebration to be at Charlotte Motor Speedway
CONCORD, N.C. (July 9, 2013) – America’s favorite pony car, the Ford Mustang, will be 50 years old next year, and thousands of car enthusiasts from around the globe are expected to descend upon Charlotte Motor Speedway to mark the automotive milestone.
The Mustang Club of America (MCA) will host a Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration the week of April 16-20, 2014 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and organizers say the event is already drawing international attention.
“We’ve already gotten inquiries from all over the country and as far away as Australia, France and Germany,” MCA President Steve Prewitt said during a Tuesday press event at the speedway. “We’re excited to be back here at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where we hosted the 30th birthday celebration in 1994 and the 35th in 1999.”
In addition to vendors and visiting Mustang enthusiasts, organizers say 6,000 to 7,000 Mustangs will be displayed inside and outside of Charlotte Motor Speedway during the celebration. Open track driving sessions will be an integral part of the activities as well as other activities, including dinners, tours and concerts.
Combined with the Charlotte AutoFair, April 3-6, and the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, April 11-13, the Mustang celebration will cap off back-to-back-to-back weekends of entertainment. With the added event, Concord and Cabarrus County could draw record numbers of visitors and tourism dollars during the month of April.
